Building on the success of Sumo Digital’s inaugural
developer conference (SDC) held in June this year, SDCXtra will continue to offer
Sumo people exciting learning and collaboration experiences throughout the
year.
The regular in studio learning events will consist of
in-depth talks, panels or presentations each focussing on a particular
discipline of game development or area of personal development putting learning
and development at the very heart of the initiative. SDCXtra will also be streamed live to ensure
accessibility for all.
The first two SDCXtra events have been confirmed with
October’s inaugural session to be held at Sumo’s Newcastle studio with Shayleen
Hulbert, Senior Character Artist at Sumo Leamington discussing “Techniques for Stylising
Hair”. Sumo Sheffield will host November’s SDCXtra, the presentation will
focus on game design and will be given by Rob McLachlan, Lead Designer at The
Chinese Room.
Gary Dunn, Managing Director at Sumo Digital, said: “SDCXtra
enables our people to continue their journey of learning game craft insight
from the excellent pool of talent we have access to here at Sumo Digital. As we
start to build towards SDC 2023, SDCXtra will offer further opportunities to
collaborate and build relationships with others across Sumo Digital and
ultimately ensure we continue making great gaming experiences.”
Sumo continues to strive to open pathways to those already
in the industry with events such as SDC and SDCXtra, as well as through its
internal learning resource platform Dojo. The company supports those looking to
break into games with the Sumo Digital Academy and its partnerships with the
Ahead Partnership, Code Coven, IntoGames and Limit Break.
