Welcome to the Co-Dev Download – a regular feature where we share the games Sumo Digital studios are working on with some of our partners.

This month, we share a selection of some of the titles our teams have been working on – from behemoth franchises and iconic IP, to puzzle games and third-person shooters. Let’s dive in…

Sonic Mania Plus – Porting to Mobile

Gaming on the go just got that bit faster! Want to have the ability to play the “best Sonic game this decade” [The Verge] anywhere, any time? Well now you can as Sonic Manic Plus comes to iOS and Android thanks to Lab42.

Having worked on Sonic Mania in 2017 (following completion of work on other SEGA titles including Yakuza Kiwami), Lab42 have been busy bringing everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog and his colourful cavalcade of companions to on-the-go audiences.

Announced by Netflix in late 2023, Sonic Mania Plus lets players explore vibrant new stages and classic zones with stunning, pixel-perfect graphics and retro animations. Featuring new modes and new playable characters, this beloved title will challenge new and veteran players alike.

Helldivers 2 – Concept and 3D Art

They loved working on this game so much, the Atomhawk team entered discussions to legally change their name to Atomhell… they’re yet to reach an agreement.

The award-winning visual development studio did what they do best collaborating with the team at Arrowhead Game Studios to bring this much-anticipated sequel to life, contributing to both Concept Art and 3D Art to Helldivers 2. As a bonus Sumo Easter Egg, be sure to listen out for music from Sumo Nottingham’s Audio Director and Composer, Ross Tregenza, in the game.

This fast, frantic and ferocious third-person shooter sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle. Players can join the greatest military force the galaxy has ever seen to make this a safe and free place to live.

A Little to the Left – Porting to Console

Smash-hit cosy game A Little to the Left recently reached a whole new audience as the team at Lab42 ported this tidy puzzle game to PlayStation 4 & 5.

Experts in the area of porting, Lab42 worked alongside developers Max Inferno to ensure this cosy experience had all of its original charm perfectly preserved for console players to enjoy, to get organised and – just maybe­ – decide that their best is good enough.

In A Little to the Left, players can sort, stack and organise household objects into just the right spot… but be sure to watch out for a mischievous cat on a mission to shake things up!

They might not be baseball bat-wielding anti-heroes, but three of Sumo’s mighty teams were proud to have contributed to this power-packed title.

Sumo Warrington, Atomhawk and Red Kite Games worked alongside teams at Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Games to bring this game to life.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible to save the world: Kill the Justice League. Play as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang or King Shark, and experience gameplay that brings together a unique fusion of enhanced traversal and melee combat.
