Sumo Digital Academy receives ‘significant progress’ rating from Ofsted

Great news, the Sumo Digital Academy is making ‘significant progress’ according to its first Ofsted Monitoring visit report!

Following a visit in September, the report states that the Academy’s leadership “have developed a highly ambitious apprenticeship curriculum that enables new entrants to the gaming industry to acquire rapidly the new knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to work as junior programmers” and that “apprentices make very good progress and achieve well” due to having a comprehensive portfolio of work throughout the apprenticeship.

The Sumo Digital Academy is a talent development programme creating new pathways into the games industry, with its Game Programmer Apprenticeship Programme being the first in the UK games industry to be recognised by the government and the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

“The team put all our energy and passion into demonstrating the incredible learning environment that we have created here at the Sumo Digital Academy,” said Dr Jacob Habgood, Director of Education Partnerships at Sumo Digital. “I have never been so proud of my colleagues, students, and graduates for what we have achieved together in such a short space of time.

“Ofsted concurred. I’m told that a ‘significant progress’ judgement is rare at this stage in a training provider’s journey and we got it for both Leadership and Management and Teaching and Learning.”

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills, and inspect services providing education and skills for learners of all ages across the UK.
