ASTRONEER: Megatech DLC
ASTRONEER: Megatech introduces Megastructures into ASTRONEER and offers players a new set of end-game challenges for advanced Astroneers who have a love of automation.
Overview
Red Kite Games worked in close collaboration with the brilliant System Era Softworks to develop ASTRONEER: Megatech. From early ideation to post-launch support and bug fixing. Concurrently, Red Kite also led development on upgrading the game engine from Unreal Engine 4.23 to 4.27 across all platforms. In less than 12 months, Red Kite worked together with System Era across multiple disciplines to bring ASTRONEER: Megatech to a passionate fanbase.

The Ask
Red Kite was tasked with:
- Creating the second full paid DLC for ASTRONEER which allows players to access new Megastructures, granting new automation possibilities and fully compatible with base game.
- Upgrade the game engine from Unreal Engine 4.23 to 4.27 across all platforms
Our Involvement
- Led Development on a new expansion, ASTRONEER: Megatech, across art, design, and code.
- Implemented new content, missions, and narrative.
- Simultaneously led development on a free update launching alongside the expansion, including decorations, expanded automation, and base building enhancements.
- Supported client LiveOps with multiple limited time events.
- Concurrently led development of upgrading the game engine from Unreal Engine 4.23 to 4.27 for all platforms.
- As part of the engine upgrade the team also updated the game from a legacy UWP platform to WinGDK.
