We are Timbre Games (part of the Sumo Digital Group), a new studio in Vancouver, Canada focused on making exciting, innovative game experiences. Timbre’s vision is to change the games industry through the original games we make, as well as how we make them. Joining Timbre Games as a Technical Artist, you'll be at the exciting intersection of art and technology, where your passion and skills will bring game worlds to life. You have a passion for balancing aesthetic goals with technical constraints, thereby enhancing both the visual appeal and performance of the game. You act as a catalyst for innovation and efficiency, enabling smoother collaboration between artists and programmers, which significantly elevates the gaming experience and contributes to the overall success of our project.

As a Technical Artist at Timbre, you will:

  • Contribute to the architecture and refinement of art pipelines and workflows, ensuring seamless integration of art assets into the game engine
  • Work across disciplines to drive innovative solutions for game technology, including general tooling, lighting, cinematics, shaders, and VFX
  • Design and implement custom plug-ins, tools and scripts to enhance the efficiency of the art production pipeline
  • Continuously evaluate and improve existing workflows and processes for asset creation and integration
  • Collaborate with artists and programmers to establish and enforce best practices for asset creation, including 3D models, textures, and animations

What you Bring:

  • Proficiency in Unreal, Maya, Houdini, Python, Perforce and industry standard software for game development
  • Strong understanding of art and design principles, with the ability to provide guidance on visual aesthetics and the translation of artistic vision into technical implementation.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop custom tools and scripts, automate and optimize workflows, and integrate tools into existing pipelines to ensure they meet production needs
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical team members

Although our roots are in Vancouver, we work with a remote, distributed team across Canada.
