Joining Sumo: Pune New Starter Stories

1st August 2020Posted by: Sumo Digital

As a growing studio, nothing makes us happier than checking in with some of our newest hires!

Most recently, we spoke to Ria Nandi (Senior Artist) and Aman Srivastava (Artist) to learn what their experience has been like starting remotely with Sumo Pune!

Hi Ria and Aman!

Thanks for chatting with us today! How has the onboarding experience been for you, especially since we’re in lockdown at the moment?

Ria – It’s been smooth sailing! Admin and HR coordinated to ensure all my requirements were met and all the company policies were explained properly.

Aman – I agree – management were really supportive and helped me throughout the process. Overall, formalities were done smoothly and effectively in time.

Ria – Since we’re in lockdown and working remotely, there have been few expected and unexpected issues, but the response to solve these has been very quick!

Is there anything your new teams did, or the wider company facilitated, to make you feel welcome?

Aman – Yes – I was welcomed warmly by my teammates and provided brand new equipment. I was introduced to the team virtually, and it was very well done.

Ria – I’m really happy to see that Sumo Digital takes care of its employees and provides equipment to make working from home comfortable.

What was the interview process like?

Ria – It went very smoothly. Due to my situation, I am  thankful to my interviewer and HR team for extending the overall process. It shows their true support for a potential candidate.

Aman – My interview process was conducted in 2 steps. I was given an assignment and another round of face-to-face screening via Skype with a Senior Art Manager & Production Head. The interview was quite fruitful, and I had a great discussion with the panel!

Working from Home - Sumo Pune Stories

Were there any things you were nervous about beforehand, and how were these resolved?

Ria – Since I have never worked for console games, I was a bit nervous but equally excited. My team members and line managers made things very easy for me and gave me time to pick things up.

Aman – It’s always a mix of nervousness & excitement to do something new, but the team has made me feel comfortable enough to do everything confidently.

Do you have any advice for anyone about to start working remotely in a new role?

Ria – I would say if you face any issue while working remotely, talk to your line managers or producer or whoever is responsible, they are very agile and cooperative and will take initiative to solve your problem.

Aman – To get through the interview process and complete the assignment effectively, every candidate should have a functional workstation and good internet connectivity.

Any final comments or things you’d like to add?

Ria – Joining Sumo Digital has been a great experience for me so far. I’ve heard good things about the company, and it lives up to my high expectations. I have learned a whole lot of new things just in my first month. I am very happy so far and look forward to doing good work and making great games together with the team.

Aman – I am happy to be joining a team with great zeal! I hope I have a good experience and a successful journey ahead.
