Adapting To Change – Working (and recruiting!) From Home

2nd April 2020Posted by: Sumo Digital

It goes without saying that things are a little unusual for everyone at the moment.

In order to keep our fellow humans safe, we’re all adjusting to the lifestyle changes that come with social distancing to help slow the spread of COVID-19. And it’ll come as no surprise to you that we, like many others, are working from home.

All seven of our UK studios, and our Pune, India studio, are set up to work remotely. That’s meant we’ve got to know a lot of furry friends and mini humans living with our teammates around the company as they share wonderful photos and videos through social media. It’s also shown us what a resilient bunch we are.

We’re fortunate to work in an adaptable industry which, with the help of our awesome support teams, has allowed us to continue making games. So, even in these ‘interesting’ times, we’re looking for talented folks to join us, albeit remotely at first!

We thought it would be helpful for those who are considering dropping us a line to know how the recruiting process will work for the foreseeable future.

One of our brilliant team members sharing pics of their #SumoFromHome set up – one way of keeping us all connected.

Changes to our recruitment process

The only real change here is that all interview steps will now be completed via video conference using MS Teams. We’re confident in our process and will extend offers to the right candidates following any required tests and the final video interview.

We’re not slowing down either – in fact, being able to interview using video means that our interviewers have greater flexibility, so we will be able to move a little quicker!

Changes to onboarding

All new starters will be asked to begin their work with us remotely. Like our recent joiners Alan & Stewart, you’ll receive all the hardware, software and tools you need to – quite literally – make yourself at home in your new role. Our wonderful HR, IT and management teams will be on hand to help you settle in, too.

If you want to know more, here are a few things we suggest you do:

  • See how our teams are adjusting to working from home (we’re using the hashtag #SumoFromHome on social media, particularly on InstagramTwitter and LinkedIn
  • Review our open roles. If you see something you’re interested in, submit your application as normal and we’ll be in touch.
Quality content from #SumoFromHome

These are unprecedented times, and it’ll take time to adjust to the temporary new normal.

In the meantime, we’re going to post information on how you can prepare yourself for work in the games industry (hopefully with us!) and show you how Sumo will continue to support our incredible teams to do what they do best: have fun, play games, and make great games. We’d like to do that with you!
